This week we did a bunch of clean up work because if how much damage there is from the tornado. What we heard from members is that there were a total of 16 tornadoes last Monday night. It's honestly such a miracle that there was only 1 casualty because a bunch of houses are completely wiped out. In the neighborhoods we went to help out this week it looks like someone just dropped a bomb it's just so wrecked. There was one family that was going to be moving out of their house the next day so they were sleeping on air mattresses. They all huddled in one closet and literally all the rest of their house besides that closet was blown away. They were living in duplex, and a 2 by 4 came through the closet on the other half of the duplex but miraculously didn't hit the family. We were working with the father of the family cleaning up house debris from his neighbors houses and he was telling us about how he knew the Lord was protecting him and his family, which was pretty cool.
So ya most of our week has been filled with doing service because there are so many people in need of help. We've been so physically and emotionally exhausted, but it's good because we feel like our time is being used really well. Our district leader and his companion, Elder Bingham and Elder Goodwine, had to move out of their apartment because it got ripped apart, but even they have been out helping all week. Elder Goodwine's desk with his scriptures got sucked out with their wall and a bunch of other things were lost but they are safe. In district council they told us about how they felt prompted to go into their bathroom downstairs with some bedding and 5 seconds after they closed the bathroom door the sliding glass door flew and hit the wall right where they had been standing. The Lord was definitely watching and warning. On Sunday we were able to hear a lot of testimonies from members about how they were watched over Monday night. It was pretty awesome to be able to hear about all of those miracles.
Anyways, enough about the tornados. Because we hadn't had a bunch of time to find new people to teach this week, last night we were determined to find at least 2 people to teach, which is a pretty high goal for 1 day. We ended up finding FIVE people to come back and teach! We were so blessed to have been lead by the Lord to know where to go and who to talk to, because we found all five of those people within an hour and a half! We are so excited to go back and visit these people because each of them need the gospel in their lives so bad.
We also felt like we needed to sticky note a family that we are teaching. It's really hard to meet with them because they have crazy work schedules and we had only had one appointment with them weeks ago. Anyways, while we were sticking noting them, the mom opened the door, so I guess we weren't very sneaky, but she said she and her husband were free and invited in! We were able to have an awesome lesson about temples and how they can be sealed to live as a family together forever. It was a really cool opportunity that we weren't at all expecting, so we feel so blessed.
Okay well, not much more for this week, but I love you all so much! Email and let me know how you all are doing! Be safe and choose to be happy!
Love,
Sister Priest
Saying goodbye to our gross apartment
Junk years of previous missionaries living in
our old apartment left that we had to throw away
before we moved. A guy in a van drove by and
picked most of them up right after we put them
out there, hopefully he enjoys all the
random things missionaries leave.
