This has been one busy week again, and we've worked our tushies off! We've driven from appointment to appointment with either members or people we're teaching, so our schedule has been packed. A lot of our appointments have cancelled, but the Lord really has a plan because each time someone has cancelled we have an opportunity to visit with someone else nearby or to contact people we wouldn't have had the time to if our plans had gone how we thought they would have.
We also got to do some service this week, which was the bomb! One of the couples in our ward invited us to the senior center to play chair volleyball with the folks there, and it was pretty fun. You sit in a chair with 6 people on each team and play with a soft beach ball. You can hit the ball as many times as you need to as long as it makes it over the net and doesn't hit the ceiling. Sister Yates felt kinda bad because we both have smack down crack down reflexes, so when the ball comes towards us, our bodies just take over and we hit the ball super hard to get it over to the other side. Most of the time it works really well (in fact the seniors fought over who get to have us on their team), but there were a few times where we both nailed some people on our team in the back of the head because our arms flopped and smacked the ball before our brains had a chance to think haha. Thankfully the beach ball is very soft, so nobody has gotten hurt, but it's pretty funny how intense the seniors are about their chair volleyball. They tell Sister Yates she needs to play volleyball because she has such a solid arm, and they've told me I need to tie my legs to my chair because my instinct is to stand up and wack the ball without thinking. Good times, good times.
This week we also got to help one of the member in our ward with some of his yard work. This week there was some pretty crazy strong wind, and a bunch of his tree branches and some of his trees got blown over. We got to drive his Mule and hook up branches to chains to drag them into a pile and then push them into a ravine in the forest. It was pretty cold, but very fun. After we had finished, we had hot chocolate and breakfast for dinner with him and his wife, and we got to meet their horse, chickens, goats, and their 8 Great Pyrenees dogs. I was in heaven because those dogs are some of the sweetest, fluffiest cuties I have ever met and their horse was so sweet!!! I've definitely been deprived of dogs and horses hahaha.
We got to meet with one of the people we are teaching again this week, and we are working on getting him to church. He said he would ask his wife again if she thinks if it would be a good idea for him to come with us for a church tour, so we're really praying that that will work out. We were finally able to talk about the Restoration with him, and he didn't understand why God called men to hold the Priesthood, and why women can't be prophets or apostles. We tried explaining that Heavenly Father has specific roles for women to play that are just as important as what men do, but he told us to ask the Elders in our area what they think and to get back to him. The Elders said pretty much the same thing we told him, so hopefully when we go back to visit him this week, we'll be able to explain that to him again. He also brought up that he didn't understand why the good people in the Pharaoh's army had to die when Moses and the Israelites were crossing the Red Sea and the waters fell on them. We explained that God has a plan that we won't always fully understand, but he didn't really like that answer, so he told us to keep thinking about it. This week when we come back we're planning on sharing Alma 60:13, which talks about how sometimes the Lord lets the righteous die so that justice can come to the wicked, but that the righteous who die are not lost. He told us that he is really trying to figure out if this church is the true church, so he told us to be prepared for many more questions in the future.
Yesterday we got to visit with a less active member who lives about 45 minutes away. She is one of the funniest people I've met, and she has such a strong testimony. She basically told us she needs to come back to church before we even invited her to come again, which was pretty cool. She said one of the reasons she hasn't come for a while is that she doesn't have a lot of money for gas, and the church is quite a drive, but she told us that she knows Heavenly Father will provide a way for her if she trust in Him and acts in faith. She's pretty awesome, and she was really touched that we used so many miles to come and visit her.
Well, I'm running out of time again, but I hope you guys have a wonderful week! Stay safe and try to be better every day! Oh my goodness I'm such a cheeseball. Okay, love you all so much and I'll talk to y'all next week!
